Thèmes d’étude actuels
Mon activité de recherche, depuis 1988, est consacrée à l’étude théorique et numérique des surfaces, interfaces, agrégats et couches ultra-minces d’oxydes. Comparés aux métaux et semiconducteurs, les isolants ont très peu bénéficié du développement des méthodes spectroscopiques telles que la photoémission, l’EXAFS, etc, car il est délicat de contrebalancer la charge de l’échantillon qui s’accumule sous bombardement électronique et photonique. Toutefois des progrès ont été réalisés depuis 1985 environ, d’abord très lentement puis de manière exponentielle à partir de 1997, ce qui a permis de faire avancer la connaissance de ces matériaux très importants quant à leurs applications : ce sont en effet des surfaces d’oxydes (toute surface en contact avec l’atmosphère ambiante) qui sont responsables des propriétés de frottement, d’adhésion, etc. En catalyse, en électronique, dans les sciences de la terre, etc, les oxydes jouent un rôle prédominant.
