Abstract

The surface properties of metal oxides – their geometric and electronic structure, their reaction during the formation of interfaces – are of key interest in many established and emerging technologies. In the present talk, I will show new experimental results on the surface properties of two popular metal oxides, TiO2 and ZnO, obtained by the group “Oxydes en basses dimensions”. For TiO2, a new method to identify the phase and surface orientation of TiO2 nanostructured samples based on X-ray photoemission spectroscopy is presented [1]. In the case of ZnO, the effect of polarity on the surface reactivity with transition metals is evidenced [2].
